Cecilia Campos from Peru sent me a rhyme and a song for Mothers’ Day in Spanish and with English translations. Here’s the rhyme, song, the tune and Cecilia’s comments…
I’m teaching my son a rhyme for Mother’s Day. I created it when I was a teacher, for my first graders. Here it is in Spanish, with an English translation:
A mi Mamá
(Spanish)Mamita querida
de mi corazon
yo te quiero mucho
con todo mi amor. For My Mom
(English)My mommy dearest,
From my heart,
I love you so much,
with all my love.I put the rhyme to music and it became a song. (Huayno, typical music from the Andes, or sung to the Arroz con Leche tune). It goes like this:
A mi Mamá
(Spanish)Mamita querida
de mi corazon
yo te quiero mucho
con todo mi amor.Por eso te traigo flores
por eso te canto yo
por eso te traigo flores
con gran emocion.Mamita querida
aunque soy chiquito/a
mi amor es grande,
mas grande que el sol.Por eso te traigo flores
por eso te canto yo
por eso te traigo flores
con gran emocion.For My Mom
(English)My mommy dearest,
From my heart
I love you so much,
With all my love.That’s why,
I bring you flowers.
That’s why,
I sing for you.
That’s why,
I bring you flowers,
With all my heart. My mommy dearest,
Although I’m little,
My love for you is so big,
Bigger than the sun.That’s why,
I bring you flowers.
That’s why,
I sing for you.
That’s why,
I bring you flowers,
With all my heart.
Thanks for sending in this nice song and rhyme Cecilia! Thanks also to Susan Pomerantz for playing the Arroz con Leche tune on the piano.
-Lisa

Thank you so much! That was very nice of you to put this up. My mother is from Bolivia and she is spending Mother’s day with her mom for the first time ever this Sunday. My Grandma is 84. I plan on singing it with my brother and sister on Sunday. When I try to sing the other spanish it doesn’t fit in the tune….am I missing something?
Thank you,
Stephanie

Does anyone know the lyrics to a mother’s day song that says:
Madrecita del alma querida
En mi pecho yo levo una flor…..
This is my first mother’s day without my sweet mother and this was a song she used to sing to me, now that she has gone to heaven I wont hear her sing it anymore. Iwould love to hear that song again.

“Madrecita del alma querida” was written by Oswaldo Farrés. You can find it at this page or by typing “madrecita del alma querida en mi pecho yo llevo una flor” into google. (Thanks to Monique for pointing that out!)
