This song is sung in different languages around the world. It originally comes from Nigeria.

Notes

Nyango wrote from Cameroon:

"That is the version we sing. It was also used in an English language textbook for adults and more verses were added, such as:

2nd Verse:
Coastal* people love Saturday night
Coastal people love Saturday night
Coastal people, Coastal people,
Coastal people, Coastal people
Coastal people love Saturday night.

3rd Verse: Grassland* people love Saturday night.

4th Verse: Little children love Saturday night.

And one or two more verses.

*Coastal people and Grassland people refers to the 2 English-speaking regions of Cameroon. Coastal is my region, the Southwest Region and Grassland aka Grassfields is the Northwest region."

The Cameroonian song called "Bele Mama" is sung to the same tune.
