This is a very popular song in elementary schools in Cameroon. It's sung at school in the morning where there is a general assembly on the playing field and roll call is taken before classes begin...

*"Over there" refers to heaven.

(1) Alternate last line: "Over there, over there in our home."

Nyango said, "You'll notice that most of our songs have a religious connotation and most of our schools are run by Baptist Missions, Presbyterian Missions and Catholic Missions and "over there" of course is talking of heaven."

Many thanks to Nyango M. Nambangi of the Minnesota African Women's Association for contributing this song and for singing it for us.

Nyango talks about this song (as well as sings it) in this mp3.
