Gannon said this rhyme is: "Used in Somersetshire in counting out the game of pee-wip or pee-wit." If anyone knows anything about the game of pee-wip or pee-wit, please email me. We'd love to learn more about it!

Thanks and Acknowledgements

This rhyme comes from Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes, Tales and Jingles (1902) by W. Gannon. (Though it looks like Gannon got the information from Halliwell's book of Nursery Rhymes from 1842.)
