Dame Trot and Her Cat - English Children's Songs - England - Mama Lisa's World: Children's Songs and Rhymes from Around the World - Intro Image

Notes

*A slight variation on this line from The Real Mother Goose (1916), illustrated by Blanche Fisher Wright is:

"Pussy would wait".

Here's another version from The Big Book of Nursery Rhymes (circa 1920) edited by Walter Jerrold:

Dame Trot and her cat
Sat down for to chat;
The Dame sat on this side.
And Puss sat on that.

"Puss," says the Dame,
Can you catch a rat
Or a mouse in the dark?"
"Purr," says the cat.
