A Chiapaneca is a woman from Chiapas, a Mexican state.

The melody was composed in 1897. This 1st version of the lyrics was written in 1924. Over time choreography was added. It's usually danced to the melody alone by women dressed in traditional Chiapan attire.

Notes

Lyrics: Juan Arozamena (1899 - 1926)
Music by Bulmaro López Fernández (1878- 1960) - who composed it in 1897 inspired by his girlfriend at the time. The actual title of the song was "La chiapaneca" (singular) since it was dedicated to one young woman.
