Tortillitas - Mexican Children's Songs - Mexico - Mama Lisa's World: Children's Songs and Rhymes from Around the World - Intro Image

Notes

*Or "expecting"... "Culeca" actually refers to a hen who wants to "sit" and hatch her eggs instead of allowing the farmer to collect them. In some places, this words means "pregnant" but in many other places, it means "happy" or "glad".

Game Instructions

When singing "Tortillitas" the adult takes the baby's hands and claps them together, or else they do a kind of pat-a-cake to the rhyme.

Comments

Rosa López sent an alternate version:

Tortillita de manteca pa' mamá que está contenta
Tortillita de maíz pa' papa que está feliz.

Translation

Little tortillas made with lard for Mommy who is glad.
Little tortillas made with corn for Daddy who is happy.
