This song is known in the Netheralnds as :Als ik een klokje was (If I were a bell):
Als ik een klokje was
Blij zou ik luiden
Dit zou ik overal
Vrolijk beduiden
(Ave Maria) Als ik een klokje was
(Ave Maria) Blij zou ik luiden
(Ave Maria) Dit zou ik overal
(Ave Maria) Vrolijk beduiden
Ave Maria
Ave Maria
Ave Maria
Als ik een vogel was
Luid zou ik zingen
Mijn zang zou ieder hart
Blij binnen dringen
Ave Maria) Als ik een vogel was
(Ave Maria) Luid zou ik zingen
(Ave Maria) Mijn zang zou ieder hart
(Ave Maria) Blij binnen dringen
Ave Maria
Ave Maria
Ave Maria
And the translation:
If I were a bell
I would sound happy
I would let this hear
Merrily everywere
Ave Maria If I were a bell
Ave Maria I would sound happy
Ave Maria I would let this hear
Ave Maria Merrily everywere
If I were a bird
Loud would I sing
My singing would every heart
Fill with joy
Ave Maria If I were a bird
Ave Maria Loud would I sing
Ave Maria My singing would every heart
Ave Maria Fill with joy

Can anyone tell me where I might get a copy of this song? I am trying to get a copy for my mother. We tried to get her record copied but it was so fragile that it broke when they tried to copy it so now the song is gone. I would like to find a copy of it for her. It was one of the few things she brought with her from Holland when she was only 15. Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Hello, did you get your copy from somewhere? I could send you this song in NoteWorthy-format, so you can play it with the free NoteWorthy-composer, or in pdf-format. Just let me know!
Kindly regards. Jef

You can hear it sung there

The URL Monique cites does not play the song.
I would like to know who the composer is or whether this is a folk song or otherwise in the public domain. We have been singing it in our church choir for years and I would like to write it out and print copies for younger people.
Thanks all.

I meant to add the third verse we sing:
Mocht ik als schoone bloem
Sieren Uw voeten
U hemelreine Maagd
Zoo steds begroeten
Ave Maria…etc.

Hmmm… I must be missing some program or driver. I’ve tried it in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari on both Mac and Windows machines. I have Javascript enabled.

I can’t hear it in Firefox, but I can hear it in Internet Explorer. It’s an odd file type – or I’d try to save it and send it to you. I don’t see how I can.
Have you tried on a friend’s computer? I’d try on different computers – because one should work.
Good luck!
