Can Anyone Help with a Rhyme that Sounds Like “Bunka Bunka Roona”? It’s Most Likely Norwegian.

Rachel wrote asking about a childhood rhyme…

Hello,

My Norwegian Grandfather – passed away 30 years ago – used to put me on his knee and do something like:

Bunka Bunka Roona,
Smacka Smacka Doona,
Kahoong and Kahoong
& Set the Butchin up!
How Many?

At the end, he’d put so many of his fingers on my back and I had to guess how many there were. Is this the correct version or is it even Norwegian?

If anyone can help with the original version of this rhyme and/or a translation, please let us know in the comments below.

Thanks!

Lisa

  1. Hadrian Says:

    is this it?

    Akka bakka
    bunka rakka
    ella mella,
    sjong dong
    filli fong,
    issa bissa topp.
    Stopp!
    Du-er-ute!

means absolutely nothing though, except the last two lines which are “stop” “you’re out!”
