Kalinka is one of the most famous Russian folk songs around the world. Kalinka also is a folk dance. The knee-bending dance called Preesyadka was often danced to the song. Eventually that dance became known as Kalinka.

Kalinka is the Russian name of the snowball tree (viburnum opulus), also known as the cranberrybush (not related to cranberries). The fruit is a symbol of Russia.

The chorus is sung faster and faster each time it's sung.

Written in 1860 by composer and folklorist Ivan Larionov.
