Can Anyone Help with a Song about a Soldier Coming Back from War?

My Dad came from outside Naples. He used to sing a song about a soldier that came back from the war and his girlfriend did not recognize him. Dad came to USA around 1916.

Any ideas of what this song is?

   I think this song is called “Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye”…. and Irish Folk Song…. the version i have is arranged for chorus by Alice Parker.
