Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me find the children’s song I am looking for. I don’t know the name of it just some of the lyrics… Putting something in a box and putting it in your pocket to keep it safe. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Janice

  1. Marilyn Says:

    Do you mean…
“A tisket, a tasket, my little yellow basket?”
Something about “I found a letter… and put it in my pocket”

    Marilyn

  2. Lisa Says:

The traditional version of A-tisket, A-tasket goes:

    A-tisket, a-tasket,
    A green and yellow basket,
I wrote a letter to my love,
But on the way I dropped it.
I dropped it, I dropped it,
And, on the way I dropped it.
A little boy picked it up,
And put it in his pocket.

A different version was sung by Ella Fitzgerald.

Is that the song you’re looking for Janice?

  3. Shani Says:

I’m not sure this was the song you were looking for, but I thought of it immediately when I read your post…

I’ve got something in my pocket.
    It belongs across my face.
I keep it very close at hand,
    In the most convenient place.
I’m sure you couldn’t guess it,
If you guessed a long, long while.
So I’ll take it out & put it on.
It’s a great big happy smile!

  4. Rebecca Says:

    There is also another song..

I Have a little red box
to put my best friend in…
I take him (her) out and say
    “How do you do!”
And put him (her) back again!

  6. Jean Says:

There’s a song on Mike and Peggy Seeger’s collection, American Folk Songs for CHildren,

“Have a little dog, and his name is Don…”
“Have a little box about three feet square… and when I go to travel I put him in there…”
“When I go to travel I travel like an ox… and in my vest pocket I carry that box”

It ends with, “If you want to beat this, you’ll have to tell a lie”

    Jean

  7. Keri Says:

    I thought of this:

Where, oh where is dear little Susie?
Where, oh where is dear little Susie?
Where, oh where is dear little Susie?
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch!

Pickin’ up paw-paws, put ’em in her pocket.
Pickin’ up paw-paws, put ’em in her pocket.
Pickin’ up paw-paws, put ’em in her pocket.
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch!

  8. Reena Says:

    What about:
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
    Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

  9. Chuck Lapidus Says:

A Yiddish version of “A Tisket a Tasket” was song in the 1930’s at Grossinger’s resort in the New York Catskills.
Does anyone have the words to this song?

  10. Ada Says:

    I think it is rather:

    What is it about?
    A something in my pocket!
I reached in and found nothing,
    Then I found a star.
Flew back to the sky it is,
    Flew back to the stars,
Happily and merrily I saw it flew up!
    Flew up, flew up….
    Flew up, flew up….
    Flew up, flew up….
    Into the skies it went!

How is it? Was it nice?

    Love,
    Ada

Here is a simple song about a box

If I had a itty bitty box to put my ______(name of friend) in,
I’d take him/her out and (kiss, kiss, kiss,)
and put her right back in.

    There is a children’s ‘biblical’ song…..

    I wish I had…

I wish I had a little red box to put my Jesus in (pretend to hold a little box).

I’d take Him out and kiss, kiss, kiss (kiss your hand as you pretend to take Jesus out).

And put Him right back in (motion to put Him back in the box).

I’d take Him out and kiss, kiss, kiss (kiss your hand as you pretend to take Jesus out).

And put Him right back in (motion to put Him back in the box).

I wish I had a little blue box to put the Disciples in (pretend to hold a little box).

I’d take them out and say, “Howdy do!” (Wave hello).

And put them right back in (motion to put them back in the box).

I’d take them out and say, “Howdy do!” (Wave hello).

And put them right back in (motion to put them back in the box).

I wish I had (Frown) a rusty old box to put the devil in (pretend to hold a little box).

I’d take Him out and mm, mm, mm (pound your fist into your other hand).

And put Him right back in (motion to put Him back in the box).

I’d take Him out and mm, mm, mm (pound your fist into your other hand).

And put Him right back in (motion to put Him back in the box).

I wish I had a little gold box to put my Bible in (pretend to hold a little box).

I’d take it out and read, read, read (pretend you’re reading your bible).

And put it right back in (motion to put Him back in the box).

I’d take it out and read, read, read (pretend you’re reading your bible).

And put it right back in (motion to put Him back in the box).
