Can Anyone Help with a Puerto Rican Kids Song about a Little Cow?

Carilus wrote asking for help with a Puerto Rican kids song about a little cow. Here’s the email…

Hi, my name is Carilu. I grew up in Puerto Rico and I’m beyond thankful for the songs that you have in in mamá lisa page. Some I had forgotten but they came right back!

So there was a song I learned when I was in first grade called la vaquita (the lil cow). It was one of my favorites and I hope you can confirm it with other people.

No te olvidaré, x2

I don’t remember if it came from a book or lesson we were reading. Thanks for your time and I hope someone can recognize it and confirm it.

-Cari-

All I was able to find is this YouTube video that’s similar to the 1st line…

If anyone recognizes this song, can confirm the lyrics and/or has any information about it, please let us know in the comments below. Thanks in advance! -Mama Lisa

The only mention I found is in the Spanish version of “Just me” by Nadeen Luv, Trafford Limited, 2017.

  2. Nazaret Isabel Says:

YESSSSSS!!! I thought I was the only one who knew it. My dad sang it to me all the time when I was small. It was my favorite (and still is)

And isn’t it “Que me daba mucha leche”

  3. Greg Rivera Says:

Omg! My dad used to sing this to me to. I wonder if there is any recordings of it. Thanks for posting!

  4. Marisol Rivera Says:

My mom sang it to me all the time. She had a verse in there, “pobre de mi vaquita 2x cuando tiene sed” 2x.

This is the version I remember I love the Rondas infantiles (nursery Rhymes)

    Yo tenia una vaquita,
    Yo tenia una vaquita.
    Dentro de un corral,
    Dentro de un corral.
    Que me daba mucha leche,
    Que me daba mucha leche.
    Para yo tomar,
    Para yo tomar.
Un día me la lleve al campo,
Un día me la lleve al campo.
    Y se me perdió,
    Y se me perdió.
    Es que vino un enanito,
    Es que vino un enanito.
    Y le la llevo,
    Y se la llevo.
Si yo cojo ha ese enanito,
si yo cojo ha ese enanito.
    Que duro le doy,
    que duro le doy.
    Adiós mi linda vaquita,
    adiós mi linda vaquita.
    Pronto te vere,
    pronto te vere.

    I had a little cow,
    I had a little cow.
    Inside a corral,
    Inside a corral.
That gave me a lot of milk,
That gave me a lot of milk.
    For me to drink,
    For me to drink.
One day I took her to the field,
One day I took her to the field.
    And I lost it,
    And I lost it.
It’s just that a dwarf came,
It’s just that a dwarf came.
And he took her for him,
And he took her for him.
    If I catch that dwarf,
    If I catch that dwarf.
    How hard I hit him,
    how hard I hit him.
    Goodbye my pretty cow,
    goodbye my pretty cow.
    I will see you soon,
    I will see you soon.

I hope this help you, we have a lot of rondas infantiles.
