A Vegetable Counting Song

001-2"Ichijiku Ninjin" is a fun Japanese song we just learned that’s a play on words. In the song you count from 1 to 10 while listing vegetables that have similar sounds to the numbers. You can learn Ichijiku Ninjin on our song page where we give a literal translation.

We tried to make an English version that works the same way… counting while naming fruit and vegetables. Here’s what we came up with:

One-nion, two-cumber,
Three-ng-beans and fours-radish
Five-a beans, Six chard
Seven herbs and eight-plants,
Ba-nine-a and t-endives.

If anyone would like to try to create a version in any language, feel free to share one in the comments below. It’s fun to try!

Enjoy!
