À la ronde du muguet - French Children's Songs - France - Mama Lisa's World: Children's Songs and Rhymes from Around the World - Intro Image

Notes

*"Round" meaning "Circle Game"
**Literally "to go to the pole or post" but the punishment consists in going to stand in a corner usually facing the wall.

*****

Monique from "Mama Lisa's World en français" would sing the following version as a child:

À la ronde du muguet
Sans rire et sans parler
La première qui rira,
Au piquet pour une fois.
Un, deux, trois,
Croisez les bras.

English Translation

Around the lily of the valley,
Without laughing and without speaking
The first who laughs,
To the corner one time,
One, two, three,
Cross your arms.

******

The midi music presents both versions separated by a blank measure.

Game Instructions

The children walk in a circle. When the song ends, they stop (in the 2nd version they cross their arms) and the first who laughs goes to the center or out of the circle. Then the game starts again, the next one who laughs swaps places with the former one.
