Is Fathers Day Celebrated in Hungary?

I recently recieved this email…

Is Fathers Day celebrated in Hungary? If so, on what day?

Thank you for your help.

Tracy Bondi

So far I’ve checked some books and I haven’t been able to find any evidence that Father’s Day is celebrated in Hungary. If anyone can answer this question, please comment below.

Thanks!

Lisa

P.S. I also welcome information about Fathers Day in other countries.

Actually, does anyone know the origin of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day? I thought it was just an invention of corporations in order to boost sales of certain types of products, (e.g. greeting cards).

  2. Lisa Says:

That’s the myth – it’s not actually true. Mother’s Day has been a holiday since the early 1900’s in the US. Father’s Day became a holiday shortly after that.

I’ll write a blog entry about this in the future. Recently, I’ve been busy working on some new countries to add to Mama Lisa’s World.

    I see.

Anyway, I can tell you that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are celebrated in Hong Kong.

Thanks! Any idea when? Or could you find out?

We don’t celebrate Father’s Day in Hungary (‘we’ cause I’m Hungarian as well) but it would be great if we did. Mother’s Day is always the first Sunday in May. Hope this helps.

Yes! People in Hungary do celebrate Father’s Day. I know because I’m Hungarian and I’m celebrating Father’s Day this weekend in the Hungarian house.

  7. Lisa Says:

This weekend is June 17th and 18th. Is that when Father’s Day is usually celebrated in Hungary?

  8. Diana Says:

Father’s Day exists since 1994 and is celebrated, though not very well known. It’s always held at the 3rd Sunday of June every year.

Some families like to celebrate it but most don’t… when i lived there all my family and friends never celebrated it but i knew of some people who did.

  12. Piroska Says:

I am ‘real’ Hungarian. And my family don’t celebrate Father’s Day. I agree with Victoria that it depends on the family. In mine we just celebrate Mother’s Day, but this is quite important to say thanks for both mother and grandmothers.
