Does Anyone Know a Rhyme with the Line, “I’ve a picture book.”?

Karen wrote…

Can you help me find the lyrics and origins to a nursery rhyme that starts with:

“I’ve a picture book. It is open, look. Let me show you the pictures inside…”

Many thanks,

Karen

If anyone is familiar with this rhyme, please let us know about it in the comments below.

Thanks!

  1. Barbara Fuller Says:

Goes something like this, my mum used to sing it to me….

I’ve a picture book, it is open wide,
I will show you the pictures inside.
On the front there’s a goat in a pretty white coat and a pony to take me for a ride.

I will shut my book on the cover look
There’s a big fat chicken on her nest,
With a cat and a dog and a little green frog
Oh I don’t know which one I like the best

You got all the components but I believe the order is slightly different

The version I was taught goes

    I’ve got a picture book
    It is open look
Let me show you all the pictures inside

    There’s a cat and a dog
    And a little green frog
And a pony to take me on a ride

    When I shut my book
    On the cover look
    There’s a pretty goat
    With a white fur coat

On the back of the book
    If you finally look
There’s a fat green chicken sat on her nest
But I don’t know which I one like the best
