A Bunny Came to Visit us Today

    Saturday, April 11th, 2009

My daughter took this photo of a bunny in our yard.  It was hanging out under the slide seeking shelter from the rain.  It’s still there about 3 hours later!

    Cute wittle bunny wabbit!

Little Rhyme about Birds and the World

    Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Project Gutenberg just posted Birds Illustrated by Color Photograph [April, 1897] – which you can access online or downlowd from the link I provided. It might be nice to peruse with an elementary school child.

    Here’s a nice little rhyme I found inside it…

“‘Tis always morning somewhere, and above
The awakening continents, from shore to shore,
Somewhere the birds are singing evermore.”

    Enjoy!

At the Zoo by A. A. Milne

    Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Here’s a poem called At the Zoo by A. A. Milne, the author of Winnie the Pooh

    At the Zoo

    Photo of a Lion

There are lions and roaring tigers,

    Photo of a Tiger

    and enormous camels and things,

    Photo of Camels

    There are biffalo-buffalo-bisons,

    Photo of Bison

and a great big bear with wings.

Photo of a Bear with Wings

    There’s a sort of a tiny potamus,

    Photo of a Tiny Hippopotamus

    and a tiny nosserus too-

    Photo of a Tiny Rhinoceros

But I gave buns to the elephant

Photo of an Elephant and a Bun

when I went down to the Zoo!

There are badgers and bidgers and bodgers,

    Photo of a Badger

    and a Super-in-tendent’s House,

    Photo of the Superintendent's House

There are masses of goats, and a Polar,

    Photo of Goats

    Photo of a Polar Bear

    and different kinds of mouse,

    Picture of Mice

    And I think there’s a sort of a something

    which is called a wallaboo*-

    Photo of a Wallaby

But I gave buns to the elephant

when I went down to the Zoo!

If you try to talk to the bison,

    Photo of Bison

    he never quite understands;

You can’t shake hands with a mingo**-

    Photo of a Mingo

    he doesn’t like shaking hands.

    And lions and roaring tigers

    Photo of a Lion

hate saying, “How do you do?”-

But I gave buns to the elephant

when I went down to the Zoo!

*Probably a wallaby – a type of small kangaroo.
**A mingo is a fish called a vermillion snapper (similar to a red snapper).

A Visit to the Zoo – Check Out these Photos of Monkeys and Giraffes

    Monday, June 2nd, 2008

We visited the Bronx Zoo yesterday.

We were amazed by how human-like the monkeys looked…

    Photo of Monkeys

They acted even more human than they appeared…

    Photo of a Monkey Family

We also loved the giraffe mama and baby…

Photo of a Giraffe Mother and Baby

It was cool to see the mama giraffe curve her neck and then try to hide behind the trees…

Come back next time for a poem about the zoo and some more photos…
