A Romanian Carol with a Translation, a Video and a Request for Help!

We have part of a Romanian Christmas Carol called Trei păstori – Three Shepherds. We need some help with some of the later verses. Below you’ll find the beggining of the song with the translation we have, followed by the verses we need help with. We appreciate any help anyone can give us!

Trei păstori
(Romanian)

Trei păstori se întâlniră
Trei păstori se întâlniră
Raza soarelui
Floarea soarelui
Şi aşa se sfătuiră.

Haideţi fraţilor să mergem
Haideţi fraţilor să mergem
Raza soarelui
Floarea soarelui
Floricele să culegem.

Şi să facem o cunună
Şi să facem o cunună
Raza soarelui
Floarea soarelui
S-o împletim cu voie bună.

Şi s-o ducem lui Hristos
Şi s-o ducem lui Hristos
Raza soarelui
Floarea soarelui
Să ne fie de folos.

English Translation…

Three Shepherds

Three shepherds met,
Three shepherds met,
Sunbeam,
Sunflower,
And conferred thus.

Come one, brothers, let us go,
Come one, brothers, let us go,
Sunbeam,
Sunflower,
To pick little flowers.

With them we’ll make a crown,
With them we’ll make a crown,
Sunbeam,
Sunflower,
That we’ll entwine with joy.

We will bring it to Christ,
We will bring it to Christ,
Sunbeam,
Sunflower,
For our good.

Here you can hear the Carol…

Monique Palomares did the English translation. She wrote:

I found some versions with a couple of more verses, but I don’t know exactly what they mean. I wonder if anyone could help with these two verses…

De nasterea lui Hristos = The birth of Christ
De nasterea lui Hristos
Raza soarelui, floarea soarelui
Nouă şi la neamul nost,. = new for humankind ?

Si de-acum pana-n vecie = and for ever and ever
Si de-acum pana-n vecie
Raza soarelui, floarea soarelui
Mila Domnului sa fie. = let be God’s misericord?

If anyone can help with the last two verses, please let us know in the comments below.

Thanks!

Mama Lisa

  1. miha Says:

De nasterea lui Hristos = for/about Christ’s birth
Noua si la neamul nost’ = (For) us and our family
(The idea of these verses might be that the three shepherds speak about the birth of Christ to us and our family)
Si de-acum pana-n vecie = from now on until forever

  2. Lisa Says:

    Thank you Miha!

  3. silvia Merriman Says:

For us and our kind ( nost’ = nostru)
    Let it be God’s kindness
