This is a catchy song that has a game that accompanies it.

The meaning of the phrase "rig-a-jig-jig" may seem like nonsense. But it's clearly a play on the word "jig" which is a type of lively folk dance.

Notes

*Alternative: "A friend of mine I happened to meet."

This song shares the same tune as Buffalo Gals except for the last line of each verse.

Game Instructions

Everyone goes in a circle. One player goes around the inside of the circle while everyone sings the 1st verse. On the line, "A pretty girl I chanced to meet" (or "A friend of mine I happened to meet"), the player bows to one person standing in the circle. Then they join hands and go around the inside of the circle together while everyone sings the 2nd verse. The process is repeated with a new player until all players are partnered.
