Here's a clapping song for kids around 7 to 12...

Miss Lucy Had a Steam Boat - American Children's Songs - The USA - Mama Lisa's World: Children's Songs and Rhymes from Around the World - Intro Image

Notes

Richard Travers sent a slight variation:

"The line 'Flies are in the country, bees are in their hives' should read 'Flies are in the country, bees are in the park' to rhyme with "dark" in the next line.

*****

Dave Lieberman sent me the following version, in 2005, with the note:

"Since I've spent the whole weekend with two nine-year-old girls who are very much into jump rope, the following have been in my head:"

Miss Lucy had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell, Miss Lucy went to heaven and the steamboat went to --

Hello Operator, please give me number nine, And if you disconnect me, I will chop off your --

Behind the 'frigerator, there was a piece of glass, Miss Lucy sat upon it and it went right up her --

Ask me no more questions, please tell me no more lies, The boys are in the girls' room, pulling down their --

Flies are in the meadow, bees are in the park, Miss Lucy and her boyfriend are kissing in the D-A-R-K D-A-R-K D-A-R-K --

Dark is like a movie, a movie's like a show, A show is entertainment, and that is all --

I know I know my mother, I know I know my pa, I know I know my sister with the tissues in her bra!

My mother your mother live across the way Fifteen, sixteen West Broadway.
Every night they have a fight
And this is what they say:
Icka bicka backa soda cracka!

Miss Lucy had a baby, she named him little Tim, She put him in the bathtub to see if he could swim.

He drank up all the water, he ate up all the soap, He tried to eat the bathtub but it didn't fit down his throat.

Miss Lucy called the doctor, the doctor called the nurse, The nurse called the lady with the alligator purse.

In walked the doctor, in walked the nurse, In walked the lady with the alligator purse.

"Measles," said the doctor. "Mumps," said the nurse.
"Hiccups," said the lady with the alligator purse.

Out came the water, out came the soap,
Out came the bathtub that didn't fit down his throat.

Miss Lucy kicked the doctor, Miss Lucy kicked the nurse, Miss Lucy paid the lady with the alligator purse.
