The tune to "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" comes from Europe in the 18th century. Genevan philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau composed the original tune. Rousseau's tune was written for his one-act opera called "Le devin du village" (The Village Soothsayer). The English words are first found in 1918 in Cecil Sharp's Collection.
