Burns Night & Burns Supper Poems Around The World
A Burns Supper celebrates the life of one of the most well-known Scottish poets, Robert Burns (1759 – 1796). The suppers are held on or around Burns' birthday on January 25th. Burns wrote the famous poem that later became a New Years song called "Auld Lang Syne. He also wrote the well-known poem about love called "A Red, Red Rose," among many others. He also collected Scottish folks songs.
The first Burns Supper took place on the 5th anniversary of his death and has been taking place ever since. During the supper, Burns' poems are read and speeches and toasts are given. At the end, everyone sings "Auld Lang Syne".
