Here’s an interesting question about the top popular lullabies and songs in English:

Hi there!

I am interested to know a top 20 list or so of lullabies and songs for babies in the English speaking world.

What would you – and other readers of this site – rate as the most popular songs in English?

Rock-a-bye Baby

Mama’s Gonna Buy You a Mockingbird

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Sleep Baby Sleep (English version of Schlaf, Kindlein, schlaf!)

    What about ‘Little Red Bird’? There’s yet another version of Rock-a-bye Baby on my Lullaby World CD. I added another verse, which is a cheeky thing to do, I know. However, as it’s in the English folk tradition and I’m English, I felt I could do that. Familiar melodies are often used as lullabies with improvised words or lulling sounds.     Try the English words to the Welsh Lullaby, “All through the Night” Absolutely beautiful. Listen to it first to get the tune.

    I am looking for the Lullaby version that goes something like this:

    Lullaby and goodnight while angel watch keep
    thy sleeper shall be a sweet dream to thee.
    Lullaby and goodnight…

    I think that’s probably a specific translated version of Brahms’ Lullaby.
