“The Centipede’s Dilemma” is a poem about how sometimes if you think too much about something you normally do, it can become difficult to perform the task. This phenomena is sometimes called the “centipede effect” due to this poem which describes it so well! Here’s the poem…
The Centipede’s Dilemma
A centipede was happy – quite!
Until a toad in fun
Said, “Pray, which leg moves after which?”
This raised her doubts to such a pitch,
She fell exhausted in the ditch
Not knowing how to run.
The poem is attributed to Katherine Craster in Pinafore Poems (1871).
