Poems about Safely Crossing the Street with an MP3 Recording

Picture of Kids Crossing Street - Safety

Grace Wray sent me this poem about teaching kids to safely cross the street with an mp3 recording…

MP3 of Safety First (Both Versions)

SAFETY FIRST

Up the street I look to see
If any traffic is near to me
Down the road I look as well
And listen for a horn or a bell.

There’s something coming, wait a bit
If I run out, I may be hit
But now the road is really clear
No cars or motor bus is near
I run across the road so wide
Hurrah! I’m safe on the other side.

Version 2:

SAFETY FIRST

Up the street I look to see
If any traffic’s near to me.
Down the road I look as well
And listen for a horn or a bell.

There’s something coming, wait a bit
If I run out, I may be hit.
Right and left, front and near
Let me see if it is clear.

When I asked Grace when she learned this, she wrote: “My oldest brother is almost 60 and he learnt it in elementary school as well so it has to be way before that. I learned it in Jamaica in Primary school in the 1st Grade.”

Thanks Grace for sharing the poem and to Sarina and Lila for the drawings! Thanks to a special girl for recording these poems for Mama Lisa’s World! If anyone else would like to share any other safety poems, feel free to add them in the comments below.

Thanks!

Mama Lisa

    Hi,

Just to inform you that I too studied this poem (in India) at the age of 6 years — 47 years ago. It was written by Enid Blyton. See the link:
