Lori wrote asking for help with a song her Norwegian father used to sing to her in English. We’re not sure if the song was originally in English or Norwegian. Here’s her email…
I don’t know the name of this Norwegian song but it goes something like this: I went to New York to find me some work…… and then there’s something about him getting two bits for pay.
They call me ula just the same…. Ula they all call me Ula, I don’t know how (or where) they got hold of that name. I never told (?) any them fellas but they call me Ula just the same.
And then there was something about how he gets in trouble and he gets locked up in the jail house… And he gets locked up with a big key…

He sang it in English, but changed the words a bit with a Norwegian accent.
I would be so grateful if you could find these words for me and my sisters. We miss our daddy so much and can remember even the intonation he sang this song with and the sparkle in his blue Norwegian eyes.

Ula sounds like Ola, and there is many Norwegian songs about Ola.
