Beaujolais Nouveau

The release of the new Beaujolais Nouveau is a big event in the wine world each year. It always takes place on the 3rd Thursday of November. Beaujolais Nouveau is a red wine that’s produced by gamay grapes. It’s from the Beaujolais region in France near Lyons. It’s one of the most popular wines around the globe. What’s interesting is that it only ferments for a few weeks before being bottled and released.

According to Wikipedia, “It is famous for races by distributors to get the first bottles to different markets around the globe.” But they all have to hold back on selling it until the 3rd Thursday in November.

Monique wrote from France, “On D-Day, we see and hear everywhere,”Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!” (“Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived!”). There are people who go to restaurants that day to be able to drink it without buying it to keep at home. Since it’s wine that doesn’t keep for long (6 months max), unlike Beaujolais vinted normally. So you buy some if you intend to invite the friends soon or if you are invited to their place.

As the French say, “Tchin Tchin!” (Cheers!)

Thanks to Monique Palomares for sharing her experience of Beaujolais Nouveau in France! Monique works with me on the French version of Mama Lisa’s World.
