Bye, Baby Bunting

Bye, baby bunting,
Daddy's gone a-hunting,
To get a little rabbit skin*
To wrap the baby bunting in.

*Or hare skin (which is the old way to say it).

Here's a longer version from The Only True Mother Goose Melodies (c. 1843), and it can also be found in Mother Goose, The Original Volland Edition (1915), edited and arranged by Eulalie Osgood Grover and illustrated by Frederick Richardson:

Bye, Baby bunting,
Father's gone a-hunting,
Mother's gone a-milking,
Sister's gone a-silking,
And Brother's gone to buy a skin
To wrap the Baby bunting in.
