National Pancake Day in the Netherlands

Gert Beumer wrote to us about National Pancake Day in the Netherlands…

image1Last week on Friday, March 18th, it was National Pancake Day. Several school classes baked pancakes for the older generation in elder home care facilities.

That made me remember this song about making pancakes called Elsje fiederelsje. A Dutch pancake is made of flower, egg, milk, beer, and salt. It is as large as a plate and you can bake bacon and apple in it and/or cover it with syrup, sugar, and gouda cheese. I like the one with bacon and syrup.

The photo is of my granddaughter serving pancakes for the elderly people with her class mates.

Kind regards
