Dear Mama Lisa, Lisa-san
I am Japanese man once stayed in Samoa to teach Japanese language there as a volunteer Japanese teacher.
You’ might have already got more information about the song than before but I would like to introduce the article how this song was made. You can search for the same kind of articles on Japanese internet site, if you understand Japanese.
One famous Japanese anthropologist visited Samoa many years ago and recorded songs sung by children then. After coming back to Japan this person made one song vased on these songs with Japanese words. This person didn’t understand Samoan language at that time and made Japanese words only by Samoan image.
This song was introduced in Japanese TV program for children and spread rapidly among Japanese people as very new Polinesian song.
After some years, this person visited Samoa again and asked the persons about songs once recorded at the first visit and amazingly found that some songs were made temporarily to welcome this Japanese anthropologist then.
Personally, I think this fact shows Samoan’s excellent talent and mind of entertainment.
So, any other Samoan people didn’t memorize this song which is now very famous as typical Samoan song in Japan.
It’s something pity but this song shows merry and friendly feeling in Samoa, Polinesia. I like this song, too.
Maybe you understand now, by this progress, there is no original Samoan song in Samoa. Only Japanese lyrics for this song exists but no English one.
I think that this song just started still around 20 years ago and someone should make splendid English lyrics version in the future.
I hope you understand the circumstance about this song by my poor English explanation.
