(Pick A Letter to Choose a Rhyme!)

James Orchard Halliwell included this nursery "song" in his book The Nursery Rhymes of England from 1886. Here's the preface he wrote to this specific rhyme: "An ancient Suffolk song for a bad singer".

There Was an Old Crow

There was an old crow
Sat upon a clod*;
There's an end of my song,
That's odd!

Here's a recording I did in the spirit of Halliwell's comment above that this song is for "a bad singer"...

Notes

*A clod is a lump of earth.

Thanks and Acknowledgements

This rhyme can be found in The Little Mother Goose (1912), illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith. It can also be found in The Nursery Rhymes of England, 5th edition (1886), by James Orchard Halliwell.
