James Orchard Halliwell included this nursery "song" in his book The Nursery Rhymes of England from 1886. Here's the preface he wrote to this specific rhyme: "An ancient Suffolk song for a bad singer".

There's an end of my song,
That's odd!
Here's a recording I did in the spirit of Halliwell's comment above that this song is for "a bad singer"...
