There Was an Old Man in a Velvet Coat

There Was an Old Man in a Velvet Coat - Mama Lisa's House of English Nursery Rhymes, Intro Image

There was an old man
In a velvet coat,
He kissed a maid
And gave her a groat*.
The groat it was crack'd
And would not go,--
Ah, old man, do you serve me so?

Notes

*The groat was a coin used in Europe as currency. The English groat came out in 1351-2 and was equal to four pence.
