The Little Mother Goose (1912) has this version of the rhyme:

Peter, Peter, pumpkin-eater;
Had a wife, and couldn't keep her;
He put her in a pumpkin shell,
And there he kept her very well.

Peter, Peter, pumpkin-eater;
Had another and didn't love her;
Peter learned to read and spell,
And then he loved her very well.

This rhyme and the 2nd illustration can be found in The Real Mother Goose (1916), illustrated by Blanche Fisher Wright. The 3rd illustration can be found in The Little Mother Goose (1912), illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith.
