Here's a well-known French version of the German Austrian song "Stille Nacht" (Silent Night in English). The original version was written as a poem by Joseph Mohr in 1816 and set to music by his friend Franz Gruber in 1818. The French lyrics are by Rev. Father Barjon.

Douce nuit - French Children's Songs - France - Mama Lisa's World: Children's Songs and Rhymes from Around the World, Intro Image

Douce nuit, sainte nuit !
Dans les cieux ! L'astre luit.
Le mystère annoncé s'accomplit
Cet enfant sur la paille endormi,
C'est l'amour infini !
C'est l'amour infini !

Saint enfant, doux agneau !

Sweet night, holy night!
In the heavens the star shines.
The announced rite has been fulfilled,
This child asleep on the straw
Is infinite love!
Is infinite love!

Holy child, sweet lamb!
How great! How beautiful!
Hear the sound of the reed-pipes,
Of the shepherds who lead their flocks
To his humble cradle!
To his humble cradle!

He comes to us
As an unrequited gift.
To this world that doesn't know love
Where today he begins his sojourn
Let him be King forever!
Let him be King forever!

What a welcome for a King!
No shelter, no roof!
In his crib he shivers from the cold,
O sinner, without waiting for the cross,
Jesus suffers for you!
Jesus suffers for you!

Peace onto all! Glory be to heaven!
Glory be to the Mother
Who, for us on this Christmas day,
Gave birth to the eternal Savior
That Israel was expecting!
That Israel was expecting!
