French Polynesia is a group of 130 islands and atolls, located between Australia and South America, in the South Pacific Ocean. It includes five archipelagoes: Society Islands, the Marquesas Islands, Tuamotu Archipelego, Austral Islands (which includes the Tubuai Islands), and the Gambier Islands.
The Society Islands are the most well-known since they include Tahiti and Bora Bora. Tahiti is the home to over two-thirds of the population of French Polynesia and it houses the capital city of Papeete.
French Polynesia is called "overseas lands" of France. The main languages spoken there are French and Tahitian.
