About the West Indies - Caribbean
The West Indies is another name for the Caribbean.
It's the area bordering the North Atlantic Ocean starting on the southern tip of Florida to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It stretches from the Mexican coast through Central America, to the northern coast of South America. It includes the Bahamas and the islands in the Caribbean Sea which are mostly grouped together as the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles.
Much of the area has a common cultural history.
