Game Instructions

One child is chosen to be the wolf. The children delineate a space. The child acting as the wolf stays hidden out of this space. While they sing the song, the children who "stroll" must walk inside the space. When the wolf comes out of his hiding spot, the "strollers" must run away without going out of the delineated space. The kids caught by the wolf must go and sit in the "house" of the wolf. The last one who hasn't been caught at the end becomes the new wolf. Then the game starts all over again.

Comments

In a minor variation of this song, the first part of each verse can be found without the first part of the negation (i.e. ne or n'). Informal French often doesn't use it. You can see this variation in the lines in italics below:

Promenons-nous dans les bois
Pendant que le loup y est pas
Si le loup y était
Il nous mangerait,
Mais comme il y est pas
Il nous mangera pas.

Listen

At the end of the recording, it goes, "Je prends mon fusil. J'arrive. Ah" (I take my rifle, I'm coming. Ah!!!)...
